hmm... i think they changed the story a bit from the manga.
as i remember it, her furnace makes her lose one sense at a time with a trial to overcome, and once she masters that aspect she regains that sense.
so she had lost her ability to speak when they met as children but regained by the time they reunited. instead she was at a higher level trial and lost her sight.
now as i remember it, she passed the trial regained her sight either in this border base or even before going there.
the scene was quite touching, though not quite as well-staged as the drama of this episode.

i'm not complaining about the changes they made, i just noticed how it affects the plot in terms of drama/emotional depths.

i want a floating purple cube to give to my fiance oh wait i dont have a fiance. >⌓<｡
